The problem seems to be that an incorrect line is generated in the /etc/local/smartd.conf file:

/dev/ada0 -n standby -W 0,0,0 -s L/(01|02|03|04|05|06|07|08|09|10|11|12)/../(1)/(02|00)

Note the surplus 00 in the (02|00) field at the end.
