#1469 closed defect (fixed)

FreeNAS does not restart when using 3ware controllers and ZFS

Reported by: bvowk Owned by:
Priority: major Milestone: 8.3.0-RELEASE
Component: FreeBSD Version: 8.0.4-RELEASE

Description

I have several systems with 3ware SAS cards that do not reboot when they have a 3ware card and a ZFS pool. It hangs after the "Uptime: " message, and requires a hard reboot to get it to continue. If there is no ZFS pool when reboot is called, the restart happens normally. The hang only happens when we reboot a machine with a 3ware card, and an active ZFS pool. This has been verified by switching out the raid card and keeping all other variables static. This is also a problem in the most recent BETA.

This appears to be a problem in FreeBSD, which is discussed here:
http://forums.freebsd.org/archive/index.php/t-14146.html

Unloading the ZFS module seems to solve the issue as described.

How are you rebooting the system?

Replying to jpaetzel:

How are you rebooting the system?

Via the reboot button on the UI, calling reboot, or shutdown -p NOW on the command line. They all seem to hang.

Hi guys,

For what it's worth I've seen the same thing on my system twice, but I don't have a 3ware card...I use an IBM BR10i (LSi 1068 chip) controller.

Both times happened when I canceled a file copy to the filer over CIFS. When I hit the cancel button in windows, Explorer hung locally, samba hung on the filer (couldn't browse from other boxes) as well as taking down my iSCSI disk (VM running over iSCSI hung) and locking up the webGUI. Ssh still worked & the console was still responsive. Restarting Samba & AD via the CLI did not revive the services.

Shutdown the system via the console option and it hung as described in the ticket.

It also wiped out my reporting data.

The same here, 3ware SAS Controller and ZFS Volume. After e.g. Update from BETA3 to BETA4 the System
hangs on shutdown and needs a hard reset.

Any resolution to this? Having same issue with FreeNAS-8.2.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r11950).

Is this still an issue with 8.3.0-RELEASE and updated driver?

Works for me with 8.3.0-RELEASE
