Description

Hello, I am running FreeNAS build 8.0.4-RELEASE-x64(10351)on a SuperMicro? 6025W-NTR+B server.

I have 8-1TB drives in a RAID6 configuration, provisioned into two software extents, shared using iSCSI, one of which I am using as a shared VMFS datastore for a vSphere 5 cluster.

Routinely I encounter the following error message:
<<timestamp>><<freeNAS server name>> istgt[2062]: istst_iscsi.c:2008:istgt_iscsi_op_login *ERROR* lu_find_target() failed

The problem seems to be exasperated when there's a high volume of I/O happening at one time.

The major issue this causes is it causes any VMs running from that datastore to become inert, freezing their host, and rendering vSphere HA useless. I'm looking into products like Storage vMotion and Storage I/O Control to help mitigate this, but the problem with FreeNAS is too consistent to ignore.

it is not present in

istgt version 0.4
istgt extra version 20111008

FreeNAS 8.04p1 has

istgt version 0.4
istgt extra version 20110928

and this version is problematic.

Can you upgrade the istgt in freenas. It really causes headaches, generates more than 100k of logs daily.

FreeNAS 8.2 should have a newer version of istgt, did you give it a shot?

8.2 produces the same repeated error
lu_find_target() failed
